History

The real start up of activities dates back to 1993, when Gerard Klijn founded Global Trading &  Agency B.V., an international brokerage business in nuts and dried fruits. With over 5 years of  experience in the family business in nuts and dried fruit, international experience and understanding of the trade, Global Trading gained respect and acknowledgment in the international market.

From 1994 Global Trading has worked in Africa with a goal to present local entrepreneurs and entry into the international market.

From the start, there was a driving force to develop Africa through economic incentive. During the 90-ties lot’s of work was done in Africa, lot’s of relationships started. But 2002 is the year when all changed, when new visions were shaped.

A meeting in Nampula – Mozambique, with Mr. Filipe Miranda, a local entrepreneur in cashew processing revived the dream that Gerard had since the late 80-ties : establish Africa processing; employ people; grow local economies.

A strong relationship resulted in the first ‘North-South’ partnership, two entrepreneurs with the vision to establish more factories, employ more people, process more locally grown cashews.

White Bird International B.V. was founded to be the investment partner for African companies.

Trade Development International was founded and subsidiaries started to service the African partnerships.

In 2009 a last part of the company structure was built to what we commonly call, The Fly Wheel Company : Trade & Development Group, a company that wants to develop Africa through capital investments on local projects; technical support & international marketing.

The company goal is to reinvest all profits made within the group in existing or new projects.

TDG is active in Africa, currently working in various types of projects in South Africa; Mozambique; Malawi; Benin; Burkina Faso and Ghana.
